In December 2024, Simpsonville lit its 22.5-foot Christmas tree at City Hall. The evening had a sing-along, a scripture reading, a station for letters to Santa, and cocoa and cookies. It was over in one night, on December 5.
This year the city is planning ten nights. The Simpsonville Holiday Stroll runs December 3 through 12 at Gracely Park, 100 Park Drive. It brings light displays, a Santa's Workshop, a Christmas stage, and two evening markets. The park has been growing into the center of the season for two years. In 2026 it has the season almost entirely to itself, because downtown Main Street is in the first months of a construction project that the city expects to last into 2028.
The change happened in steps. The city's 2024 and 2025 pages both list a 22.5-foot tree, and the 2026 page confirms a tree lighting without giving its height.
| Year | City holiday kickoff | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Tree lighting, 22.5-foot tree | City Hall | One night, Dec. 5 |
| 2025 | Tree lighting, 22.5-foot tree, 6:30 p.m. | Great Lawn at Gracely Park | One night, Dec. 5 |
| 2026 | Holiday Stroll with tree lighting on opening night | Gracely Park | Ten days, Dec. 3–12 |
The 2025 ceremony moved the lighting to the Great Lawn. Steve Eager and Ram Voices of Hillcrest performed, and the Letters to Santa station came along from City Hall. It was still a single evening at a new address. The 2026 Stroll keeps the address and the tree lighting, then builds a week and a half of programming around them.
The distance involved is short. City Hall is at 425 E. Curtis Street. A local park guide places the park's access along E. Curtis Street, next to the Simpsonville Fire Department. The season moved down the same street, from a building's front steps to a lawn that has room for a fountain display and a field of oversized gumdrops.
The city's Stroll page lists three main attractions:
The city says the details and attractions are subject to change. As of late October, it hasn't posted event times or the full program. That matters most for the tree lighting. In 2025 it started at 6:30 p.m., but nobody should count on that start time for 2026 until the city posts it.
The park's bigger role comes in the same year downtown's main corridor became a construction site. On August 4, Thrift Development, the City of Simpsonville and City Council broke ground on the Downtown Simpsonville Project. Greenville Journal reported that the first phase removes the four concrete islands on Main Street. FOX Carolina covered the groundbreaking as a traffic realignment and streetscape project.
The city's project page puts the budget at about $31 million. It tells residents to expect temporary road and sidewalk closures, parking changes and construction noise. Substantial completion of the main streetscape work is expected by August 2028, and parts of North and South Main may take longer. So this December is the first of at least two holiday seasons with active work downtown.
The project also reaches the street that leads to the Stroll. The plan converts College Avenue and Curtis Street to one-way traffic from North Maple Street through the Academy Street intersection. Drivers coming from I-385 would turn left on College and right on Curtis, and a new signal would let Curtis Street traffic turn right onto Academy. No published schedule says when that change takes effect. The city sends closures and detours by text to anyone who texts DowntownSVL to 38276, and that alert list is the quickest way to know whether the route you drove to the park last year still works.
The city expects downtown businesses to stay open throughout construction, though parking, sidewalk and driveway access may move as the work shifts from block to block.
The Stroll's featured dates put the Christmas Parade in the middle of the run.
Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th have no featured programming on the city's list. That leaves the two Saturdays, each with an evening market, as the fullest nights of the Stroll.
The parade is the one big holiday event that still uses downtown's main corridor. Visit Greenville SC lists the 2026 Simpsonville Christmas Parade for Sunday, December 6, at 3 p.m., hosted by the City and the Simpsonville Area Chamber. The theme is still listed as "TBA." The Chamber describes the parade as an annual downtown Main Street event held the first Sunday in December at 3 p.m.
Last year's route ran north to south on N.E. and S.E. Main Street, from S. Pliney Circle to Loma Street. Main Street closed at 1:30 p.m. and stayed closed until the parade ended around 5 p.m. The 2026 route and closure plan have not been posted. Last year's route ran through the stretch where the islands came out this summer, so the 2025 map shouldn't be used to choose a viewing spot this year. Watch for the Chamber's announcement and the DowntownSVL texts.
A few other dates from around town are worth having on hand.
For most of the ten days, the Stroll at Gracely Park will be the city's December. The parade gives Main Street its one afternoon on Sunday the 6th, and the two Saturday markets on the 5th and 12th are the fullest nights on the calendar.
